Both table lamp and art object, MATRIX is the result of the essential design of the duo Oskar Peet and Sophie Mensen, established designers of the latest generation and founders of the Eindhoven-based Studio OS Δ OOS. When referring to the term matrix, we generally think of a square matrix commonly used in mathematics, i.e. a combination of rows and columns. A third dimension is added by introducing a circle that surrounds the matrix like a ring. The design object becomes a lamp thanks to a light globe, positioned internally and centrally to the matrix, which emits a soft and diffused light in all directions. The grid structure plays with the simple and pure shape of the illuminated sphere. The components of Matrix create transparencies and cast unusual geometric shadows on the surrounding surfaces when viewed from different perspectives. The Matrix project began as a system to allow for endless configurations. The base concept is derived from architectural constructions and solutions for multi-purpose situations, i.e. from the concept of form meeting function.

Forms of glass and metal that collect, contain and diffuse light in space. UOVO

A natural form and timeless symbol of perfection, in which symmetry and asymmetry harmoniously coexist. Designed in 1972, the ‘shell’ of the egg contained a light source: an ironic idea that still works today. As in nature, the shell of the Uovo lamp is the embodiment of absolute lightness, an elegant form in white satin blown glass that gives off a warm, uniform light. Available in three sizes, it has all the versatility of a collection designed for multiple uses: from the small version which serves as a tiny utility lamp to the large version, a veritable light sculpture, protagonist of any space.

TAVOLO CON RUOTE XL - 120 X 120

An industrial trolley used at the FontanaArte plant to transport glass: this was the object that inspired Gae Aulenti to design her Tavolo con Ruote. It is a specimen of intuitive design that skips the drawing board stage and goes straight from the idea of an everyday item to the prototype stage. This wheeled table replaces the factory trolley’s wooden shelf with a chunky sheet of beveled glass – a tribute to the company’s production history – and fits free-rolling industrial wheels. The nature of the object and its intended use are transformed by replacing just one simple part.
FONTANA SMALL

Designed in 1954 by the famous French Master glassmaker and decorator Max Ingrand, this lamp was originally named 1853 and, at a later time, Fontana, in homage to the company of which the Master was Artistic Director for a decade. For design enthusiasts and connoisseurs of the brand’s history, 1853 still remains as a sort of nickname.The first symbol of timeless object of design, still today best seller and evergreen design icon, Fontana is the abat-jour par excellence. The peculiarity of Fontana is its multiple light sources: both the base and the lampshade contain one or more. The larger version also allows indirect lighting, thanks to an additional source that projects a beam of indirect light upwards. The differentiated light sources make it possible to satisfy different lighting needs: from a soft, relaxing glow to a sharp beam for reading to suggestive ambient light. Available also with Led light sources. A fabulous lamp in frosted white blown glass, already riedited in a total black variant, it is now proposed in a colored and brand new version - light grey and purple amethyst - to reinforce the contemporaneity of the project. “Light and colour are centrainly the most specific elements in nature. With them we have RELIEF, MOTION, LIFE” stated Max Ingrand. “Actually the history of architecture tells us what was the role of illuminated, opaque, translucent colour in interior and exterior architecture (…)Light was no longer just a means to breathe life into colour but became a means to breathe life into an entire architecture.”
VOLÉE SMALL

Volée is a Led luminaire of the latest generation, in which the formal research is combined with technological innovation. Featured by an essential design, Volée switches on with an almost tennis-style gesture: a simple wave of the hand under the head of this lamp activates an electronic device that switches the light on or off without any contact. A touch sensor over the head allows the flow of light to be regulated to four different levels of intensity (40%, 60%, 100%, 0%). A Time Out system automatically switches the lamp off after it has been on for 5 hours. The tension for the hidden-spring balancing mechanisms is provided by steel wires that allow to orientate the light emission with a fluid movement. Volée is suitable for every kind of environment, both modern and traditional.

More than any other lamp, Naska expresses an unmistakable identity through its archetypal form. It is the desk lamp par excellence, the original ancestor of every lamp with a spring-balanced arm. A timeless object, suitable for both domestic spaces and those dedicated to work.

The metal acts as a base and contains the light source while the glass, the true protagonist of the project, is expertly worked by skilled craftsmen in a process of fusion between a portion of transparent glass and a satin one from which the light diffuses. Fontanella is formed by the union of two glasses: the internal tube is threaded, sandblasted and finally joined with the bubble-shaped blown glass. What makes the processing particularly refined is the manual joining of the two parts, which requires the skillful technique of a craftsman. Furthermore, the glass, which has always been the material par excellence of the FontanaArte product, is the most crystalline on the market. The use of light bulbs, dimmable and not dimmable, for the biggest energy saving, complete the contemporaneity of this FontanaArte piece.

SETAREH GLASS SMALL

This is the name of the family of lighting fixtures that Francesco Librizzi, a young Sicilian architect working in Milan, has designed for the first time for FontanaArte. Setareh was born of the idea of giving form to light. The lamp is composed of a sphere magically suspended within a thin metal structure. The play of circular masses and trajectories generates a balanced design of gravitational dynamics. The light from the sphere is diffused into the surrounding space, illuminating the frame. The reflections of the metal render the luminous field visible, space influenced by light, by its aura. The result is a collection of lighting elements, available in tabletop and suspension versions, of extraordinary poetic grace. Setareh takes on new dimensions: elongated, with either two or three spherical elements that work separately or together. Its vocation is the illumination of large spaces, with double-height ceilings or otherwise ample enough to accomodate expansive compositions of multiple elements. A firmament of Setareh, ‘star’ in the ancient Farsi language.

Bianca is a family of luminaires with the decoration on the diffuser surface features an orderly series of shallow delicate grooves etched into the white glass, yielding an effect resembling small footprints on fresh snow. Mouth blown, belt sanded and dipped in acid to obtain the distinctive 'silk effect' typical of fine glassware, Bianca diffusers are available in three different diameters to complete all thirteen types of luminaires belonging to the family. The largest diffuser has a 50 cm diameter and, owing to its dimensions and the amount of glass involved, continues to pose a considerable challenge even for the ablest of glassbbottoms trained in the fixed-mould blowing technique, which – according to the traditional Venetian production process – is performed without any external aids for turning and shaping the glass blob inside the mould, but relies solely on the glassbbottom's skill and lung capacity. Bianca is available in the following versions: table-top without stem, floor-standing with base and stem, pendant, wall-mounted and ceiling-mounted. The matt white coating applied to the various metal supports evokes the name and colour of the diffuser. Bianca produces a very warm, diffused and enveloping light emission in the surrounding environment.

BLOM

Blom is a small table lamp by Andreas Engesvik, a Norwegian designer who has made a name for himself on the international scene thanks to his ability to instil emotions, appeal and ideas into everyday objects. Taking up very little space, just 24 cm tall with a diameter of 15 cm, Blom is a light, fun lamp that is easy to pick up and move and suitable for any purpose. Its name, a contraction of the word blomst, which in Norwegian means flower, is inspired by its petal shaped blades. Intensity can be adjusted thanks to the two petals that gently embrace the diffuser, rotating on the base to shield the glare depending on personal requirements: with the petals aligned the lamp emits maximum light. The compact fluorescent bulb guarantees good effective lighting with low energy consumption. The diffuser is manufactured using the ancient caged blown glass technique: the glass maker blows the molten glass blob into a metal cage, which only partly contains the blob's natural expansion. In this way, the glass surface is partly trapped by and partly escapes the cage, generating an impression of tension as the object struggles to free itself from its harness; the cage is further enriched by the galvanic treatment that makes it look glossy and brilliant. The transparent version, in particular, reveals a two-fold structure that multiplies the scenic effect, while the metal cage pattern projects kaleidoscopic shade effects on the surrounding surfaces. On the contrary, in the white version the glass delicately envelops the cage surface and enhances its geometric pattern, generating an elegant and visually pleasing diffused light. The lighting fixture makes a highly appealing and striking impact either switched on or off.

GALERIE MEDIUM

The distinguishing feature of Galerie is the diffuser, which is inspired by both aesthetically and functionally by the antique oil lamps of the Belle Époque. Hand-blown in four layers of glass, where the outer and the inner layers are of two different colors, it reads as white when turned off, then as amber once lit. It is also equipped with a leather strap that allows the fixture to be hung in different positions on the structure. In the floor version, the lamp is available for two uses: a reading lamp with one diffuser, to create the ideal atmosphere for reading, and a floor lamp with three diffusers positioned at different heights, for adjustable ambient lighting. The family also includes a wall version. The combination of materials (glass, leather, metal and marble), unprecedented in a lamp, makes the Galerie family particularly rich, and at the same time elegant and balanced. Galerie expresses the memory of days gone by in a contemporary key.
EQUATORE MEDIUM

Equatore is a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic lamp with a glass shade. While the traditional abat-jour uses the shade to contain the light source within, in this family of lamps the shade is paradoxically and suggestively empty, with the light being generated by two luminous discs placed inside a central metal band, visible on the shade, that evokes the line of the equator. The light produced by the Leds, thanks to internal screens arranged in layers, is distributed regularly across the surface of the discs, magically illuminating them. The bottom disc directs the light output downward, the upper one illuminates the glass cap for a soft, diffused light. Available in table, floor and ceiling models, in two sizes and two colors: a cooler version in gray with a dark chrome frame, and a warmer version with a transparent dove gray cap and a copper-colored frame.

NOBI MEDIUM

The absolutely novel Scintilla system combines the essential versatility of a decorative lamp and a lighting capacity comparable to a technical system. The great success of this system persuaded the company to design a free-standing version in the early eighties, with the main structure fastened to the base and stem in metal.
