On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of DRAENERT,we are now writing a new chapter of the Art Edition. The architect and designer Hadi Teherani has transferred the cultural history of marble into modern design and has created a limited edition of the MARBLE WING.“The fascinating aspect is to subdue a rock and transform it into a sculpture, tame it to a chaise longue and bring into focus the lightness in combination with the jagged rock”, says Hadi Teherani. In this way, the architect and designer became an artist who worked as a sculptor on his design and, in the tradition of the old master-builders, created the chaise longue in Carrara marble. A chaise longue, made of one natural stone block of Carrara marble, limited to 15 pieces, numbered and dated with certificate.

fontanaarte > Ceiling lamp

This is the name of the family of lighting fixtures that Francesco Librizzi, a young Sicilian architect working in Milan, has designed for the first time for FontanaArte. Setareh was born of the idea of giving form to light. The lamp is composed of a sphere magically suspended within a thin metal structure. The play of circular masses and trajectories generates a balanced design of gravitational dynamics. The light from the sphere is diffused into the surrounding space, illuminating the frame. The reflections of the metal render the luminous field visible, space influenced by light, by its aura. The result is a collection of lighting elements, available in tabletop and suspension versions, of extraordinary poetic grace. Setareh takes on new dimensions: elongated, with either two or three spherical elements that work separately or together. Its vocation is the illumination of large spaces, with double-height ceilings or otherwise ample enough to accomodate expansive compositions of multiple elements. A firmament of Setareh, ‘star’ in the ancient Farsi language.

Mino neck cushion

swedese > Styling

Inspired by the iconic Lamino, Mino was created by architect Thomas Sandell. The easy chair is based on the shapes and needs of the human body. In its design process, Sandell has started from the question of what functions an easy chair should actually fulfill. The end result is a piece of furniture that bears clear traces of both consideration and care for the person who is supposed to use it, while at the same time the kinship with its predecessor is unmistakable. Mino is perfect for those who appreciate both comfort and aesthetics, and is therefore as pleasant to sit in as it is to look at. The Mino neck cushion is a complementary product to the Mino easy chair and can be upholstered in fabric or leather.

Vitruvius Thassos Waterjet Mosaic

With echos of Leonardo DaVinci’s famous “Vitruvian Man”, the Vitruvius pattern models the ancient Roman architect Vitruvius’ description of perfect proportions in architecture and the human body. Vitruvius, part of our SPQR collection of stone mosaics, follows the golden rules of Vitruvian architecture: firmatis (durability), utilitas (utility) and venustatis (beauty). Its circular pattern reads as one circle overlapping another, which overlaps another, and so forth, similar to DaVinci’s drawing of the multi-limbed man. The result is an intricate, fluid, and visually stimulating pattern with origins in classic Roman aesthetics, updated for a modern palette. Stocked in three sophisticated colorways, Each crafted with carefully selected natural stones.

Daiki

minotti > Armchair

Designed by Marcio Kogan / studio mk27, Daiki is a family of seats inspired by the Brazilian architect's passion for Japan and its culture. The range includes comfortable bergères, fixed and swivel armchairs, with or without armrests, and a fixed footstool. Available with a matt polyester lacquered Palisander Santos shell, in the same Dark Brown stained wood or in Licorice lacquered flamed ash, the seat is made using an exclusive woodworking technique and consists of two elements joined at 45° to obtain a backrest inclination that guarantees maximum comfort. The fixed armchairs feature metal legs in a black-nickel finish, while the swivel seats are supported by a metal base with spokes, swivelling 360° with return, on which a comfortable cushion seats, contained in the curved wooden body. The base of the latter is also available in two different finishes: varnished polished Bronze to match the Palisander Santos frame with matt polyester lacquered finish or Dark Brown stain, or varnished Black Coffee finish for the ash frame. In the version with leather upholstery, the cushions are quilted with visible stitching, while the fabric version only features stitching. Daiki proposes a design that refers to the moods of Mid-Century America in its bold, simple lines, fine materials and balanced proportions.

The furniture making up the indoor-outdoor group goes back to an idea by Alexander Girard and Eero Saarinen, who were looking for furnishings to harmonize with the house they had just completed for Irvin Miller. Girard, one of whose interests as an architect was landscape gardening, complained that though there was a good choice of furniture for interiors, there was nothing to grace attractive patios – and no decent garden furniture.

Charles Eames became preoccupied with this problem until one day during a flight he came up with the idea of an aluminium frame construction combined with a material »seat«. He wanted to develop a shape following the natural lines of the body, not however as a hard shell, but as a resilient length of material stretched between two supports which trace the body's natural form. A narrow plastic strip extending the length of the material acts as reinforcement. The material is held in place by insertion into slits on the frame's outer edge.

Experiments with different covering materials later resulted in an upholstered sandwich construction consisting of two layers of »Nauga hide« with a thin filling of vinyl-foam and vinylwadding stitched at intervals of 1 7/8 inches using a high-frequency welding technique. Originally conceived for outside use, the first aluminium easy chairs to be mass produced, are today used solely in interiors.
